REDMI K30 PRO
What we have here today is xiaomi Redmi k30 isn't made ranger that packs a ton of features for less than 300 bucks including a 120 Hertz refresh rate screen let's take an in-depth look in our for review the redmi k 30 is the successor to last year's redmi k20 aka me 90 this is quite a slick looking smartphone with a curved glass back and stunning finish I especially like the round accent around the cameras which looks 3d though that's just an illusion it really helps the K 30 stand out from others shiny glass phones I'm not sure what the frame is made from probably plastic though thanks to the finish it doesn't feel like it since the phone comes with a silicon case in the box you can cover it up for some extra grip and protection and the K 30 also has a nano coating that will protect the internals from water somewhat I wouldn't push it though on the front is an IPS LCD screen that's almost six point seven inches but it's large size isn't what makes it special no this display has a 120 Hertz refresh rate double that of a typical smartphone the high refresh rate means you have smoother looking UI elements and more fluid gameplay with supported titles the screen adjusts based on the content that you can also opt to run as 60 Hertz entirely up at the top you'll notice the punch hole cut out for the dual selfie cameras I don't like it the backlighting is uneven here and actually these are two holes connected by a dark strip on the display some people coming from the previous models notch less AMOLED screen might be disappointed but this display is actually great quality for an LCD where there's 1080p resolution content look sharp contrast is decent and colors are punchy enough but still accurate if you want to switch them in color settings brightness is quite good too it goes from 1.2 nits minimum to a max of 550 nits and up to about 700 nits in auto mode in bright conditions since the screen isn't an AMOLED .
The fingerprint scanner isn't under the display like on the K 20 but on the side of the phone and it doubles as the power key it's lightning fast to wake up and unlock the device you may be doing this often too this phone doesn't have an always-on display since this is an LCD and there isn't a working notification LED either the red Nikkei 30 has a 3.5 millimeter audio jack and sound quality with headphones plugged in is just okay volume is below average and this noticeable distortion you do get FM radio down there's one bottom firing loudspeaker and audio quality is decent about par for the course at this price range the red make a thirties interface is MIA y11 on top of Android 10 the Noumea wire looks even more refined and minimalistic than previous versions especially in the menus you don't have an app drawer here as you'd expect from Xiaomi but you can get one if you install a third-party launcher besides that there isn't anything too crazy going on here there's a dock mode for your menus if you're into that though for some reason it doesn't work on all of the menus and it won't save your battery since this is an LCD screen storage here is expandable through the hybrid SIM slot on top of the 64 128 or 256 gigs built in the redmi k30 is running on a Snapdragon 730d chipset one of the best you can get on a mid-range phone performance is great here especially for gaming I did find that for now it's not so easy to find games that actually take advantage of the high refresh rate screen but regardless everything runs smoothly compared to the previous model though it isn't a huge upgrade decay 20 had a Snapdragon 730 chipsets and the only difference between the two was a higher clock speed in the new chipsets GPU so there is a small improvement in in graphics benchmarks but nothing major so how about battery life the red make a 30s battery capacity is 4500 million powers 500 more than the previous model battery life is comparable though the K 30s chord a great endurance rating of 101 hours and our proprietary tests compared to the K 20s 100 but after switching the screen to a 60 Hertz refresh rate the score jumped up to an excellent 114 hours as far as charging goes the K 30 comes with a 27 watt fast charger in the box which is able to take the phone from 0 to 56% in half an hour now moving on to the cameras .
We have the same setup as the redmi note 8 pro a 64 megapixel quad bearman cam an 8 megapixel ultra wide a 2 megapixel macro cam and a depth sensor the main camera saves 16 megapixel photos and in daylight quality is excellent there's plenty of detail great contrast in wide dynamic range but we're not totally on board with the color rendition and the sharpening may be a little much you can shoot in the full 64 megapixel resolution and these photos have impressive detail and dialed down sharpening however these shots are slow to save and each has a huge file size since there's no telephoto like the redmi k20 has the two times zoom is just a crop from the center of the main camera these turn out ok but they would have been better if they hadn't been upscaled as 16 megapixels the ultra wide cam snaps good pictures with enough detail and nice contrast the dynamic range is rather limited but these are still very good for this price range portrait shots are taken with a main camera and the depth sensor they're very detailed in rifle portraits that we've seen from much more expensive phones the red make a 30 is 2 megapixel macro cam has autofocus unlike the majority of the macro shooters out there the close-ups we took with the K 30 are actually pretty nice now let's look at some nighttime photos the red make a 30s main cam saves very pleasant images the noise reduction is balanced while it leaves some noise on the photos it also keeps the fine detail and sharpness intact the shots are contrasty and have great colors the night mode is quite conservative next more like HDR rather than full-on night mode it cleans up some of the noise and restores most clipped highlights but the resulting photos are soft and exposure is about the same the low-light photos from the ultra wide camera aren't terrible there's both more detail and a brighter exposure than we expected resulting in a usable image the ribbony K 30 has the same dual selfie camera as the K 20 just that here is not on a pop-up module this setup includes a 20 megapixel shooter and a def sensor the selfies are very good there's enough detail the colors are nice and the contrast is excellent thanks to the depth sensor the portrait selfies are better than what we got on previous Xiaomi phones including the K 20 subject separation still isn't perfect though now on to video recording the red make a 30 captures video at up to 4k at 30fps with this main cam and these are good with excellent resolve detail good contrast in decently wide dynamic range with the ultra wide cam you can only shoot in 1080p but besides the resolution the quality is comparable to the main cams and finally here's a look at the electronic video stabilization on the K 30 which I think works pretty well so that's the xiaomi redmi k 30 you get a beautiful looking build great battery life and fast charging solid cameras and a competitive chipset all for an affordable price but i would say that both the biggest positive and some i say negative of this phone is this display this LCD is bright it looks great and it's got a 120 hertz refresh rate and this way it's really setting the bar for this year's phones but on the other hand it can't bring the contrast and AMOLED can and there's an ugly hole punch up at the top so might even call this a downgrade from last year's K 20 which had a nodule asbestos AMOLED but even taking all of that into account you really can't go wrong with the redmi K 30 it's overall a great package and deserves our full recommendation thanks.
